Wi-Fi Suddenly Slow? Best Ways To Fix Slow WiFi Speeds

1. Restart the Router
Restart the device fix works in many situations and it could be a fix for slow WiFi as well. All you have to do is turn off the router for 10-15 seconds and turn it back on. Wait for the Power and Internet LED lights on to turn green and stable, try using it again and see if the problem persists.
2. Check Other Devices using WiFi
Check the other devices connected to the network. If too many devices are connected or on bandwidth heavy activities like video streaming or downloading large files, your internet speed can be affected.
3. Your Device and Router’s Location

Your router’s location plays a very important role in ensuring the Wi-Fi signals properly reach your device and offer optimum speed. If you want to send the signals everywhere in the house, then it is best to place it at a central location and higher point. Try to move closer to your router and try loading a webpage. If there's an improvement in the loading speed, poor Wi-Fi coverage could be the cause. Check out our WiFi Mesh solutions as a possible fix.

4. Change Wi-Fi Channel

Wireless signals work on different channels similar to radio signals, and all routers near your area are connected to these channels. Please follow below steps

  • Download any ‘Wifi Analyzer’ app from Android PlayStore or iOS App Store.
  • Open the app and identify your WiFi SSID channel, and check whether the channel is interfered with other WiFi in same channel. If the channel is crowded, your wifi will potentially suffer.
  • If there is channel that is less crowded, then you may configure the WiFi channel in your Unifi router.
